Ford filed recall 26V468 for 565,691 model-year 2021 through 2026 Bronco vehicles after identifying a risk that relative movement and insufficient abrasion protection could damage the engine-compartment wiring harness. Exposed circuits can short and arc, producing heat, smoke or fire on the passenger side of the engine compartment.
Ford estimated that about 1% of the recalled population contains the defect. That percentage does not reduce the dealership's VIN-control obligation: all listed vehicles remain within the campaign population until the manufacturer system identifies their individual status.
What Ford reported
The filing describes 15 incidents for which Ford had evidence that a fire may have originated at the harness. Ford said it knew of no related crashes or injuries as of July 13. Drivers may first notice smoke from the air vents or a warning message before seeing flames in the passenger-side engine bay.
Repair and operating impact
The no-charge repair adds convolute sheathing and abrasion tape to the harness. Ford expected dealer notification on July 23 and owner letters between August 24 and August 28.
Service leaders should plan capacity around a very large campaign even though the procedure may be straightforward. Used, CPO and delivery workflows should query OASIS or the current manufacturer record instead of inferring eligibility from trim or production date.
The campaign is VIN-specific, and current remedy or inventory instructions can change after the filing date.
